Profile: Trinidadian born, Mantra's passion for music grew from his early childhood into adulthood blossoming into the world of deejaying. By using the term “Mantra” (which refers to a sound that carries oneself into a higher state of consciousness) as an identity for deejaying, he connects the energy of both himself and his audience focusing on using Trance music as the key to achieving a similar effect. After training in and performing Indian Classical music throughout his childhood and teenage years, the switch from Tabla to Trance was made discovering Electronic Dance Music in the mid 90s . Coming from a Caribbean Island, he quickly fell in love with Trance music, with Electronic Dance Music being alien compared to his other childhood musical influences namely Dancehall, Reggae, Hip Hop, Hindi Film (Bollywood) and Indian Classical music. This naturally sparked an interest in deejaying which followed getting dj certified from a local broadcasting school and taking the plunge into deejaying by entering the Heineken Green Synergy Dj Competition in 2007 where he used both his local native music and Electronic Dance Music to captivate local audiences. Promoting the event titled “Trance-Formation” also played a major role in his development with Mantra working alongside other Dj friends and musical acts in an effort to spread Electronic Dance Music in his country and the Caribbean. Wanting to better combine his musical abilities with deejaying also took him to piano training with Guinness World Record holder Pianist Charles Brunner in an effort to better create remixes and original productions. After remixing both Bollywood and Caribbean music many of which combine Reggae/Dancehall and Electronic Dance Music from superstar Jamaican artists such as Mavado, Busy Signal and Vybz Kartel, Dj Mantra continues to spread Electronic Dance Music at events in Trinidad, internet websites and online radioshows, with his remixes and production work playing a major role in bringing together audiences of Caribbean music, Electronic Dance Music and Bollywood music.
